DeviantArt World Tour Meet in New York

Mon Jun 29, 2009, 7:44 AM
So :iconjemi-linked: and I wandered into the Big Apple to meet the DA folks and see what if was all about. I wore my huge black boots and short green-plaid skirt and my Rogue-esque cuffs and spiked collar and we hopped aboard the train. It got delayed about 20 minutes and we were late and bummed about it a little, but when we got there...MADNESS. CHAOS...and COOLNESS. ~Jemi-Linked had business cards and her portfolio of pure win and I had...nothing. So I mostly pimped out everybody ELSE'S STUFF to hide the fact that I had none of my own. :shh: ...I don't think it worked that well. >___>;

We met so many cool people and it was...SUPER EXHAUSTING. I will list these freakin' awesome people in the order that I met them. You should check these people out, they were all so NICE and just GREAT to talk to:

:iconreelah: OMG. Awesome accessory-maker and sweetest kid on the PLANET. My shoes were NOT the best idea on WET HILL-FILLED CENTRAL PARK GRASS, and Reelah helped me to safety so I wouldn't tumble to the ground. My hero!

:iconomnivault: He was so shy about showing off his work, poor thing! And I have NO idea why he was so shy because his Anime was too cute! And I was looking through his gallery and he's a "Gold Digger" fan. Anyone who's a fan of classic Anime-based comics like THAT is WIN in my book!

:iconpurpleangelwings: She had these awesome ashcan comics that she was handing out. I didn't get to talk to her as much, but you should see the comics if you have the chance.

:iconfilthyrich: Hoooooly crap. He had these AWESOME STICKERS and his work is SO GORGEOUS. It looked like ink wash but it was in COPIC MARKER. Really...really...gorgeous. He has a book in stores now, "The Awesome 2: Awesomer Anthology." I'm going to check it out when I have a moment.

:icondanimation2001: So talented. Sooooo talented. We spoke only a little bit before I got swamped schmoozing. He was sketching while he was there and it was all just great. I couldn't find words that day because I was dehydrated and disoriented with all the people...but I think he understood that I thought is frog robot was really awesome. You should invade his page. GO!

:iconviroquet: My BUDDY. He was showin' off his cool work and brought along two tagalongs (WHO I HOPE NOW HAVE DA NAMES *COUGHCOUGH* -.O) and was really awesome to talk to. He BAILED on us before I could really get to know him and his friends or have them come to the restaurant. Not cool Kelv. :P

:iconesrever619: This guy was floating in and out of our circle but he was so PERSONABLE. He had a sketchbook that was FALLING APART but we got to look through it and check out all his really neat sketches. He has most of them up on his page I think. He also BAILED ON US before dinner. LAME JADE. LAME!

:iconqwertyblue64: This dude didn't bring ANYTHING for ANYONE to see. :P What kind of a jerk does that? (please pay no attention to the girl behind the curtain....) He was really cool though. And a GREAT SPORT, because I CONSTANTLY was teasing him and he was so mellow about it. What a cool guy! I need to check out his work still....

:iconkippery: ~Jemi-Linked gave this girl's sketchbook over to me as I was talking with other people and I was thinking, "Oh...this is something I should look at" and BAM. GORGEOUS. Her work is simply stunning, these gentle lines and excellent anatomy. It was SO BEAUTIFUL. And SHE was huddled off shyly going, "i'm not very good *meekmeek*" CRAZY. You have GOT to see. So gorgeous. I love the way she does noses. :3

:iconartemis5096: MY SIDEKICK! This was my GIRL. We got along SO WELL as we ROBBED people of their sketch books and pimped them around. She, herself, does these FANTASTIC wood burnings and also brought NOTHING for people to see. NOZZINK. And I :heart:ed her immediately...and then she ditched my stupid ass for cello lessons. WAUGH. I AM MORE IMPORTANT THAN YOUR CELLO, LADY! :shakefist:

:iconomnicontemplation: Aaron was super cool though a little shy. I got to see a sample of some of his stuff too, though we didn't really get a chance to talk. BUMMER. But he was really nice (though he left me the same comment on my page that he left on all the other people's pages he met that day--I'M ON TO YOU ;).

:iconmatrix541: He was holding the sketchbook to his chest like protecting his YOUNG from PREDATORS. I practically had to fight it away from him. Why he was gripping it so close? I'll never know. He has some really cute stuff. He and his friend were really cool and they even got a picture with me...which I'm sure I look TERRIBLE IN, but that's okay! I was just glad he started pimping his stuff.

:icontimmya1988: Tim was wicked cool. Architecture work that was just mind-boggling. He came to the restaurant with us later and we got to know him better. He was so cool and polite and CHIVALROUS (showing ~Jemi-Linked and I through the TREACHEROUS SUBWAYS) generally a GREAT guy. He calls me "bitch" though. All the time. (j/k Tim! J/k!)

:icontuxedo64: Mario fan artist who was so adorable! She had this little "fella" necklace that she MADE HERSELF out of sculpy. I thought she'd gotten it from the site. REALLY. It was SO GOOD. She should market the idea to DA, I say. Didn't get to know her that well. Hopefully I will soon!

:iconmetal-icarus: My name-twin! Almost. We're kindred souls in name-confusion. She came to the restaurant with me and I got to sit across from her, so we were able to talk a lot. She's really talented and I got to pimp out some of her work. She was the smart one that said to split up the bill 6 ways instead of trying to figure out who got what. :bucktooth: Smaaaaaaaart. But EVIL. SO. EVIL. (j/k! ;) )

:iconshadylady-70: She also came to the restaurant. A native New Yorker, she brought NOTHING TO SHOW US. Tch. THANKS, GIRL. She completely escorted us from the restaurant ALL THE WAY to Grand Central. SO SWEET. She was the last one we got to see and hug before we finally left New York. She was clever and since she had no apple, she had a shirt with apples on it. Too. Clever. She has great T-Shirt designs in. SEE THEM YOU MUST.

:iconjade161588: Spunky girl who does a yearly DeviantArt New York meet. It's a 3-day event and you don't have to attend all 3 days if you want. It'd be GREAT to have these kinds of mini-conventions. Check her out if you're interested!

:iconjiori-seth: My...other...twin. It was creepy how much we were alike. Except she's more of a bitch (if you can believe that) ;). She's an Evo-ite too...but not really in the fandom. I saw about 3 pages of her sketches and they looked REALLY NEAT. I will have to inspect further in the future. She will probably NEVER let me go for accidentally getting terryaki sauce on her jeans.

:iconthe-lazy-shadow: Need something written? He's offered his services. He was really loud and outspoken but we only got to meet for about a minute or two. He was very funny.

WHEW. And as I attempt to rest my fingers, I'll just say that it was GREAT and I'm COMPLETELY PLANNING ANOTHER TRIP to meet some of them all again. It'll happen this summer for certain and I just can't wait to head back into the city to talk and have a great time again...maybe an art-party? Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuys?
